Come and experience a different side of DMC! Join us for our weekly and monthly pujas.
Pujas (chanted prayers) are an important component of training in a spiritual life. They help us to still our mind, connect with the Buddhas and receive blessings. Below is the list of the pujas we practice together at the Port Jefferson branch. All pujas are free of charge. All of our prayers and meditation practices are recited in English with CD accompaniment. These chanted prayer practices are suitable for beginners as well as more advanced practitioners.
Heart Jewel Chanted Prayers and Meditation
The daily puja at Kadampa Buddhist Centers is Heart Jewel, with a short meditation on Lamrim. By relying upon this practice, we can purify negativity, accumulate merit, and receive blessings. In this way, we will naturally accomplish all the realizations of the stages of the path and attain a very special Dharma wisdom. Mondays 6-6:45p
Chanted Prayers for the Dying and Deceased
Last Monday of each Month 6:00-6:45pm
Powa Ceremony, a beautiful and powerful ritual practice drawn from the Buddhist tantras, enables us to benefit the deceased by coming together as a group and making prayers and offerings on their behalf. Then, through the power of our compassionate intention, strong prayers, and concentration on the practice, we transfer the consciousness of the deceased to the Pure Land of the Buddha of Compassion so that they will experience a pure and lasting peace and finally be freed from the painful cycling of suffering and its causes. Everyone is welcome, please bring an offering of food or flowers if you wish.
At Kadampa Centers worldwide, the eighth of the month is Tara Day. Tara is a female Buddha, whose name means Rescuer; she is the embodiment of swift compassion. If we rely upon Tara sincerely and with strong faith, she will protect us from all obstacles and fulfill all our wishes. Everyone welcome and invited to join us for Tara’s chanted prayer practice, Liberation from Sorrow. Tuesdays 6:00-6:45pm
